UEFA has announced the nominees for the 2019 Team of the Year, including six African stars, and Cristiano Ronaldo broadened a record over longstanding adversary Lionel Messi all the while.
The Juventus superstar has made the 50-man shortlist for a 16th consecutive year, more than any other player in history.
He has made the UEFA Team of the Year 13 times, remembering the previous 12 selections in a row, while Messi has been named a 14th time overall and made the final selection 10 times.
In the wake of winning the UEFA Champions League in May, it won’t amaze many that Liverpool has the most nominees with 10 stars, including African team Sadio Mane and Mohamed Salah.
The 50 nominated players were chosen by UEFA.com‘s editors and reporters based on performances in European club rivalries, to be specific the Champions League, the UEFA Europa League, and UEFA Super Cup.
UEFA.com users would now be able to decide in favor of their preferred XI online.
