3 top goal scorers at Chiefs so far this season

Kaizer Chiefs have closed the gap between themselves and second-placed Stellenbosch FC to just three points following their victory over Maritzburg United on Sunday night.

The Glamour Boys claimed a hard-fought 1-0 win over former coach Ernst Middendorp’s troops at the Harry Gwala Stadium, to move into sixth place on equal points (18) with third-placed Sekhukhune United and SuperSport United in fourth spot.

Bernard Parker, who until a few weeks ago became Chiefs’ all-time top goalscorer, netted the only goal of the match in the 63rd minute, as Chiefs held on for the victory on the road.

The veteran striker took his tally to four league goals for the season, and is now among the three top goalscorers at the Naturena-based side this season.

Parker, 35, has been met with some huge scrutiny from a certain section of the Amakhosi faithful, and seems to be slowly silencing his critics.

We look at the three players who are currently leading the goalscoring charts at Chiefs this campaign.

  1. Bernard Parker (3 goals, 0 assists)

“Hond” has experienced a resurgence of note under coach Stuart Baxter this season leading the frontline along the likes of Keagan Dolly and Khama Billiat.

The Reiger Park-born veteran striker also enjoyed another record-breaker following his solitary strike against Maritzburg.

Parker equaled former teammate Siphiwe Tshabalala’s record of most away goals scored by a Chiefs player, netting his 26th strike on the road for the Glamour Boys.

  1. Khama Billiat (2 goals, 4 assists)

The Zimbabwean international netted both his goals in the 2-1 win over Baroka and 4-0 over Chippa United respectively.

His assists on the other hand came in victories over the Chilli Boys, fiercest rivals Orlando Pirates and the latest 1-0 win over the Team of Choice.

Billiat, 31, recently called time on his international career, which could make way for him to contribute more at Chiefs this season as they go in hunt for silverware.

  1. Keagan Dolly (5 goals, 3 assists)

Since returning to Mzansi from France, Dolly has been in sublime form for Baxter’s charges.

The former Montpellier attacker has so far directly been involved with eight contributions in 11 league outings.

Dolly, 28, has also aided Amakhosi to sixth position so far this campaign, and their next win could see them climb as high as third, provided other results sway their way.
