The Glamour Boys coaching role is currently vacant after German tactician Ernst Middendorp was shown the exit door following a dismal 2019/20 campaign which saw the club fail to yet again lift a single trophy, stretching their trophy drought to over five seasons.

According to Soccer Laduma, Hunt’s representatives were spotted at Chiefs’ Naturena Village late on Wednesday, as the four-time league winning coach looks to seal a move to the Soweto giants ahead of the 2020/21 season.

Despite recent talks that Algerian coach Adel Amrouche, who is currently the leading mentor for the Botswana national team, is another candidate for the Chiefs coaching job, Hunt is said to be the frontrunner for the Motaungs, who are said to prefer a local coach.

“Gavin Hunt’s representatives were in Naturena today [Wednesday],” confirmed the source.

“They had a meeting with the club, and that is all I can say for now.”

The 56-year-old former SuperSport United mentor is however said to have not been represent as the negotiations are still in its early stages.

“He [Hunt] wasn’t there, he wouldn’t be there during this stage of the negotiations. That’s the role of an agent, to speak on behalf of his client,” concluded the source.

Should the Cape Town-born mentor complete his move to Amakhosi, it would be the first time he led one of the “Big Three” teams of South African football.
