The Serbian striker, who finished as the club’s leading top goalscorer with 13 goals, as they narrowly lost out on the league title to Mamelodi Sundowns, is said to have resorted to pain-reducing injections in Chiefs’ final eight games of the season.

“Kokota” is understood to have gone under the knife on Wednesday, and is now expected to be out of action for the next eight weeks.

Nurkovic, 28, joined the Glamour Boys in July last year, and impressed in his debut season, contributing with a combination of 20 goals and assists in 31 outings across all competitions, but is now set for a major setback after battling with a groin injury prior to going into the PSL bio-bubble.

Chiefs also have Leonardo Castro out injured, and it’s unclear at this stage if both players will be back in time when the new campaign gets underway.
