Orlando Pirates have released a statement following news that star player Thembinkosi Lorch was arrested at the weekend for an alleged domestic violence issue.
The 27-year-old Bafana Bafana international, was arrested by police on Sunday evening after he allegedly beat up his girlfriend, Nokhupiwa Mathithibala, at the soccer player’s complex in Midrand.
The Buccaneers have since taken to their official website to have a say on the matter, which is said to be in the hands of authorities.
“Orlando Pirates Football Club is aware of an alleged incident involving Thembinkosi Lorch.
“This matter is currently in the hands of the authorities. As a club we cannot comment further except to say that we condemn all forms of violence, especially violence against women and children. We support the rights of each and every individual but we strongly condemn violence.
“This country has witnessed some of the most appalling cases of GBV and we do not take this matter lightly, however we need to respect the process undertaken by the authorities and allow the law to take its course.”
Lorch, who is said to be seeking alternatives to force his way out of the club after they denied his release despite numerous offers on the table for his services last week, has already appeared before the club’s DC prior to the resumption of football and was briefly kept out of the PSL bio-bubble for alleged off-field issues.
