Bafana midfielder heavily linked with MLS outfit

Currently out of contract after featuring in 102 matches across three seasons for English Championship outfit, Brentford FC, Bafana Bafana midfielder Kamohelo Mokotjo is said to have attracted interest from the United States of America.

Mokotjo, 29, saw his contract with the Bees come to an end this past campaign after they failed to gain promotion to English topflight football following their 2-1 defeat to Fulham at Wembley Stadium in the playoff final earlier this month.

FC Cincinnati, who were established just two years ago, are now said to have made contact with the South African international over a possible move ahead of the 2020/21 MLS campaign.

According to US website, mlssoccer.com, a deal has not been struck as of yet at this point, but Mokotjo looks set to become the first Bafana international to seal a move to America’s topflight football.

Having made over 150 Eredivisie appearances during his time at FC Twente, PEC Zwolle and Feyenoord, the Odendaalsrus-born defensive midfielder could see his Dutch ties with Nijkamp and head coach Jaap Stam link up, with the former Manchester United defender having previously managed both Zwolle and Feyenoord.
