Polokwane City, who had already beaten Kaizer Chiefs in the reverse fixture this campaign, looked destined to causing yet another major upset when they raced into a 2-0 lead after 60 minutes.

Nku gave Rise and Shine a deserved lead after just 16 minutes, before inspirational captain Jabulani Maluleke added City’s second in the 61st minute.

At the beginning of the second stanza, Ernst Middendorp made a triple substitution when the experienced Willard Katsande, Bernard Parker and Ramahlwe Mphahlele took to the field, which changed the complexion of the game.

Katsande made an immediate impact when he got onto the end of Samir Nurkovic’s flicked header at the far post to head past Chibwe to pull one goal back in 71st minute.

Four minutes later, the scores were level at 2-2 when Nurkovic flicked another header for Akumu Agay to tuck it away from close range.

The “Serbian Assassin” then stepped up by unleashing an audacious effort from 25 yards out to hand Amakhosi a deserved 3-2 victory, to see them extend their lead at the top to six points over second-placed Mamelodi Sundowns.
