The 33-year-old Frenchman will reportedly undergo a medical in Paris ahead of completing a transfer to Miami-based club. Matuidi, a World Cup winner in 2018, has agreed personal terms in view to becoming Beckham’s first major signing and is expected to pen a three-year contract.

Matuidi is expected to bring a wealth of experience to the table as well as a winning mentality, after enjoying spells at Paris Saint-Germain and Juventus at club level, with his experience with his native France an even bigger recruitment incentive for the Englishman’s club.

Even more, Beckham and Matuidi have a shared history, playing together during the former’s short spell at PSG in 2013. And while Barcelona talisman Lionel Messi’s potential move to the United States remains a farfetched narrative for football scribes – as the rumours that he might exit at the end of next season remain – Beckham is said to be holding onto the hope of at least coaxing Luis Suarez into parting with his signature.
