The Premier Soccer League chairman Irvin Khoza announced the resumption of the campaign that was halted four months ago by the Coronavirus pandemic from August 8 to the “second week of September”.
The Braamfontein-based club has already started the process of retrenching 29 staff members after the employers are said to have sent employees letters informing them the club will cease to exist on August 31 which leaves the club vulnerable.
This means that coach Gavin Hunt and his technical team cannot be able to complete the season beyond August 31 unless a pro-rata agreement is in place with Wits chairman Alan Fainman giving clarity on the issue.
“The new owners will take over from next season,” Fainman told Soccer Laduma.
“I am glad that the league is able to resume, but that date had come from the PSL because there was a deadline from FIFA to try and finish the league by then. The staff will continue to work until the last day of the season.”
