It is believed Bayern discussed Liverpool’s interest during talks with the Spanish international, who has reiterated his keenness on a switch to England’s top-flight. Jürgen Klopp spoke glowingly of Alcantara after The Reds played the Bavarian giants in the Champions League last season. “I’ve probably never seen them defend like that,” said Klopp.

Respect to them as they made it difficult for us, although we had good situations where we missed the last touch. Thiago is a world-class footballer. He played that deep-lying playmaker role very well, alongside [Javi] Martinez, and they were very good.”
