Having dominated proceedings earlier on in the campaign which ultimately saw them claim the Absa Premiership Q-Innovation awards for both Q1 and Q2, Kaizer Chefs assistant coach Shaun Bartlett has explained why they have struggled in Q3.

The Glamour Boys are still atop of the league standings since the 2019/20 term commenced, but had a bad start to this year which saw them lose three matches since January, though they still maintain a four-point advantage over second placed Mamelodi Sundowns.

In an interview with Chiefs’ official YouTube channel, Bartlett said:

“I think the key word has been consistency, we haven’t had that in Q3, like we did in the first two where we actually won it and it kept us top of the league.

“I think the only consolation at this moment in time is that we are still top of the league and that is the main objective to be there till the end of the season,” he said.

The former Bafana Bafana striker further added what it is they need to do in order for them to go back to the form they produced at the beginning of the season.

“Disappointment was there when we didn’t win the couple of games at home but we continue going and make sure we can stay there.

“We need to earn the right to win games and just because we are Kaizer Chiefs doesn’t mean we are going to earn the three points or go through to the next round, so that is the mindset we need to have,” he added.

When league action resumes, Amakhosi will be taking on Bidvest Wits as they further look to stretch their lead at the summit.
