Before football came to an abrupt halt due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Villa had lost five matches in a row before being held to a 0-0 draw by Sheffield recently.

The Blues on the other hand, had been on a two-match winning streak, with wins over Liverpool (2-0), which was then followed by a 4-0 drubbing of Everton.

Team News:

Former Liverpool goalkeeper Pepe Reina is likely to return for the Villans after Orjan Nyland almost cost the side three points had it not been for a costly error by VAR.

Ezri Konsa pulled up with cramp midway through the second period against Sheffield, which means Dean Smith could go for the experienced Ahmed Elmohamady at the right-back slot.

Frank Lampard’s charges have been hit by a few injuries and suspensions. Jorginho will miss out due to suspension carried over from pre-lockdown, while Callum Hudson-Odoi is match unfit.

The other two players who will miss out are Reece James who is a doubt, while Fikayo Tomori, who has a muscular injury, is sidelined for 10 days.

Despite the minor setbacks, the Blues have N’Golo Kante, Ruben Loftus-Cheek, Christian Pulisic, Mateo Kovacic and former Villan Tammy Abraham all available for this important match-up.
