Arguably one of the most potent defenders in the club’s history, Virgil van Dijk is now also set to become the highest-paid ever at Liverpool, in a lucrative deal which will see the Dutchman earn a reported £220 000 (about R4.7 million) per week.

Van Dijk is expected to sign a five-year contract extension worth a staggering £57 million (about R1.2 billion) according to widespread reports. Meanwhile, there are claims that Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) have expressed an interest in signing the star player with Liverpool not concerned about any prospects of him leaving Anfield.

The 28-year-old currently earns a believed £180 000 (about R3.9 million) per week, though his wage will be increased once Liverpool expectedly secure their first-ever Premier League title. The Reds are on the road to derby rivals, Everton at Goodison Park on June 21. Currently, at the club, striker Mohamed Salah is top-earner on a £200,000-a-week deal, with Roberto Firmino coming in third on a £180 000 per week wage.
