Mahlambi, who left the Braamfontein-based for Egyptian giants Al Ahly in 2017, has since had it tough as all the hype around him died down while many expected him to be in Europe by now after he was once described as “better than Benni McCarthy at his age” by coach Gavin Hunt.

The 22-year-old striker has however made a massive impact for the Brazilians last season after scoring the goal that sealed the Absa Premiership title in a 1-0 win over Free State Stars.

The Johannesburg-born forward has only played just 267 minutes of football, with his agent Glyn Binkin showing concern for the future of the youngster with Masandawana.

“Mahlambi is still under contract to Sundowns and like every other player at the club he is working hard to try to get into the starting line-up when the season resumes,” Binkin told KickOff.com.

“He realises he is part of a very strong squad and needs to be patient and wait his turn.”
