UPDATE: Doubts cast on strikers possible move from Barça to Liverpool

The rife speculation that Barcelona forward Ousmane Dembélé may be sold off to Liverpool with the new season in sight has been put to bed by the France international’s agent, who is not expecting the La Liga giants to cash in on the player.

But the speculation of a move elsewhere for the World Cup winner has been gaining traction in recent weeks, with form and fitness presenting as issues which have put a dent on the forward’s time at Camp Nou. It is for this reason many consider him worth selling off. The 23-year-old arrived at the Catalans in August 2017 with the funds raised by Neymar’s record-breaking switch to Paris Saint-Germain.

Interest from the season’s English and European juggernaut Liverpool has been mooted as Jürgen Klopp seeks to add greater depth to his attacking options. Dembélé’s agent has, however, sought to quash the rumours by stating that his client is unlikely to depart from Spain in the foreseeable future. “I don’t expect Dembele to leave Barcelona this summer,” stated his agent, Moussa Sissoko.

Sissoko’s comments appear to suggest that the Frenchman will not form part of any approach. Meanwhile, club legend Rivaldohas urged the club to consider parting with a player who has delivered little or nothing in relation to his mammoth price tag. “Ousmane Dembele signed for Barcelona almost three years ago and he has already had enough time to establish himself in the club and prove his value,” Rivaldo said.

It’s possible that he will never show his quality at the club. He is still a player with huge potential, but I think this summer could be the right opportunity for Barcelona to sell or even exchange him for a player they’re chasing already.”
