Out-of-favour Orlando Pirates striker Justin Shonga has found himself on the wrong side of the law after a warrant was reportedly issued for his arrest.

Shonga, 23, has been an outcast at the Buccaneers this campaign following the arrival of German tactician Josef Zinnbauer, and it seems as though he has caught attention off the field rather with off-field issues said to have curtailed his progress at the club.

According to Sunday Sun, Shonga’s girlfriend, Zinhle Khumalo, had him arrested for assaulting her after she walked in on him while he was in the company of another female in the same complex in Midrand, North of Johannesburg.

Khumalo then reportedly opened a case of assault against the Pirates attacker which saw the Zambian being detained at the Midrand Police Station before being released on bail.

Trouble then brewed when Shonga failed to appear in the Midrand Magistrate’s court on Tuesday, which reportedly led to the warrant for his arrest which was issued by the court.

“It’s a domestic violence case opened in Midrand on 24 May around 4.20am at unit (number withheld) Sandridge Heights, corner Lever road and 13th road Noordwyk,” Police spokesperson Kay Makhubele confirmed the case, as quoted by Sunday Sun.

“The victim, a female age 27 years old, alleged she saw her boyfriend with another girlfriend and confronted him about the female he was with and an argument ensued. The boyfriend assaulted her in front of their child and she called the police and the suspect was then apprehended,” Makhubele was further quoted as saying.

Shonga reportedly denied the allegations before Khumalo followed suit on his sentiments.

“I don’t even know the lady,” Shonga said.

“I never opened any assault case and nothing like that ever happened. Justin never assaulted me. Someone is clearly spreading false rumours,” Zinhle said.

His case is said to have been postponed to sometime this week.
