The Catalans will restart their La Liga campaign at Mallorca with title rivals Real Madrid playing host to Eibar the very next day, which by then, would mark three months since the league season was suspended due to the debilitating effects of the Covid-19 pandemic. La Liga will follow the German Bundesliga as the only other major European league to resume its season, with the Premier League and Serie A also eyeing restarts on dates yet to be confirmed next month.

France’s Ligue 1 make it as the only one among this ‘big five’ to declare its season null and void. For Madrid and Barca, both teams will have the unnerving task of navigating through 11 fixtures in just over a month as the race for the title continues, with La Liga bosses hopeful of a conclusion to the disrupted league season by July 19. This would then allow teams to compete in the Champions League and Europa League in August, should the green light be passed for the respective European club competitions to be contested.

Following the games against Mallorca and Eibar, Barca will welcome Leganes to Camp Nou on June 16 while Los Blancos will again play hosts, this time to Valencia on June 18. Organisers have released only scheduling details for the first two rounds of fixtures, although La Liga confirmed there will be matches being staged every day of the week until the season is completed.

Barca still have to travel to Sevilla and play Atletico Madrid at home, while Madrid have away games against Real Sociedad and Athletic Bilbao ahead of them. Matches will be played behind closed doors, following strict safety protocols, as teams returned to individual training, albeit in controlled numbers earlier in May. From Monday, however, teams have the government’s permission to return to full or normal training.
