Arrested soccer player released on R1,000 bail

The prominent soccer player who was on Sunday nabbed for speeding on the N1 in Johannesburg, briefly appeared in the Randburg Magistrate’s court on Monday and was released on R1,000 bail, according to Gauteng traffic police spokesperson Obed Sibasa.

The player, whose identity cannot be disclosed publicly until he appears in court again, was arrested after clocking about 213km/h in a 120km/h zone in Sandton before being caught and detained at the police station there.

Sibasa confirmed that the 32-year-old man, who was driving an Audi A6 TDI at the time of his arrest, will appear in court in two months’ time.

“His first court appearance is on July 29 at the Randburg magistrate’s court, ” Sibasa told TimesLIVE.

Once he appears in court again, his name will then be released.
