Deep in the throws of the transfer market ahead of next summer, Arsenal are competing with two other Premier League clubs to sign a highly-billed £15 million striker.
Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta has made Serhou Guirassy, who plies his tried as forward for French Club Amiens FC, a summer transfer target but the Spaniard faces stiff competition from at least two other Premier League clubs for the striker’s signature, it has been reported. But as is the case with most other clubs, small or big, in Europe at current, Arteta will have to do with the limited funds at his disposable in the upcoming window.
But strategy has become the name of the game amid the coronavirus-muddled pre-summer period. The north London club have settled on the magic of free transfers and swap deals in their bid to lure Guirassy to the Emirates. The 24-year-old promising striker has also been scouted by West Ham and Bournemouth after making a mercurial rise as a marksman for Amiens last season, where he scored nine goals and provided one assist across 23 appearances.
The Ligue 1 season was suspended in March due to the coronavirus pandemic before Paris Saint-Germain were crowned champions shortly thereafter by the Ligue de Football Professional (LFP), following an announcement by the French government that the 2019/20 sporting season was over. Meanwhile, Amiens and Toulouse suffered the fate of relegation to Ligue 2. This could boost Arsenal’s chances of getting a good deal for the striker with ESPN reporting that Guirassy could be sold for just £15m.
