Following Golden Arrows defender Nkanyiso Mngwengwe’s untimely passing on Monday morning, his cause of death has now been confirmed.
The South African football fraternity woke up to devastating news of Mngwengwe’s passing at the age of just 30, with his family revealing that he succumbed to heart failure.
“Ubhuti usishiyile [my brother has passed on],” his brother Mphathi Mngwengwe was quoted as saying by KickOff.com.
“It’s hard, my brother. He woke up this morning [Monday] and his body started to shake. He was shaking in his room. His wife woke us up around 02h00 and we tried to give him first aid.
“We then took him to hospital in Maritzburg where the doctors told us he was already gone and had heart failure. He was confirmed dead on arrival, ” he said.

At the time of his death, Mngwengwe was part of the Abafana Bes’thende first team since 2013, making over 140 appearances for the club in the process.
He left behind his two kids and his fiancé, who he was planning to marry sometime this year.
