Inside Pirates’ salary situation!

With several PSL clubs publicly confirming that they have felt the financial effect of COVID-19, there are, fortunately, no talks of possible salary cuts at Orlando Pirates.

The current season have been brought to an indefinite halt with the likes of AmaZulu, Cape Town City, Cape Umoya United, Highlands Park and TS Galaxy having declared that they have been forced to cut salaries due to the ongoing pandemic.

The Cape Town-based club recently issued a letter to players and staff where they have confirmed salary cuts of between 30% – 100% while others confirmed a 50% cut.

An insider at Mayfair told Soccer Laduma that the Buccaneers have not started talks on salary cuts at the moment with everyone still being paid in full.

The Soweto giants still have major sponsors like Vodacom, Adidas, Caltex, Ford and LG amongst others, while waiting for the outcomes of the meeting between SAFA and PSL which should provide clarity on the way forward for football in the currently.
