Ex-Chiefs coach backs Pitso for new Sundowns contract

Mamelodi Sundowns will struggle to find a suitable replacement for head coach Pitso Mosimane should he part ways with the club, according to former Kaizer Chiefs assistant coach Farouk Khan.

Mosimane’s future with the Absa Premiership defending champions currently hangs in the balance with his current contract coming to an end in June 2020.

The 55-year-old mentor has already put forth his demands for the new contract, though he has unfortunately had to play the waiting game since lockdown was put into effect due to the coronavirus pandemic outbreak.

Khan, who heads the Stars Of Africa academy, believes that Mosimane is irreplaceable and that it would very difficult to get someone who possesses the same qualities as the former Bafana Bafana coach.

“He has lived up to his mandate of what he has achieved, the club has to consider that, ” Khan told by Soccer Laduma, as quoted by Sport 24.

“If they lose somebody like him what would it cost to replace him because for a long time they’ve brought coaches from everywhere, coaches from Europe and they didn’t have the same success that he has.”

Since joining Masandawana in 2012, Mosimane has achieved great success with the club guiding them to four PSL titles, a Nedbank Cup, Telkom Cup, the CAF Champions League as well as CAF Super Cup.

Khan further added that Mosimane is deserving of a new contract and should get remunerated the same as foreign coaches.

“So sometimes, give him the same recognition and reward that you would have given to a foreign coach.

“Had a foreign coach achieved the same success as Pitso, would the club have considered giving them better contracts? I’m sure they would.

“So I think what he has championed is – the fact that, give South African coaches the same remuneration that you would give a foreign coach and I think that is something that still has to take place because a lot of times we give more credit and respect to a foreign tactician than we would a local coach, ” he said.

It’s unclear at this stage what the club’s intentions are regarding Mosimane’s future at Chloorkop, but reports have emerged that the club could be looking to bring in someone new for the foreseeable future.
