Despite attracting huge overseas interest, Grant Margeman’s agent has revealed why the player opted for Mamelodi Sundowns instead of pursuing his career abroad.
The South African Under 23 international was snapped up by the defending Absa Premiership champions before being sent out on loan to GladAfrica Championship outfit Cape Umoya United.
Ntobatsi Masegela, Margeman’s agent opened up on why the player wants to fulfill his ambitions at the Brazilians first before thinking about going overseas.
“There were offers from overseas but I won’t mention the clubs to protect them. I can only say they were from Spain, Turkey, Belgium, Sweden and Denmark, ” Masegela told KickOff.com.
“There were also a few local clubs that made inquiries but nothing formally.
“He decided to choose Sundowns because it’s the only club that matched his ambitions as a football player.”
Masegela also added that the 21-year-old preferred to start things locally before he could seal a European move.
“They are winning trophies. They play in the CAF Champions League. They are a ticket to a bigger team in Europe,” he said.
Margeman joins fellow teammate Jody February and George Maluleka from Kaizer Chiefs as the three new signings of Sundowns for next season, though the Tshwane giants are said to still be in the market looking for new additions.
