‘I’m going to take two years more’ – Kevin De Bruyne

Manchester City playmaker Kevin De Bruyne has declared he will add an extra two years to his playing career after the coronavirus pandemic, having found it difficult to adjust to life at home during the lockdown.

De Bruyne was enjoying his best season yet in a City shirt before the season was suspended until April 30 amid the pandemonium of the Covid-19 outbreak. This term, so far, the 28-year-old has contributed eight goals and 16 assists to City’s Premier League cause; picking up an eighth major trophy at the club, the Carabao Cup, courtesy of a 2-1 victory over Aston Villa in February.

He has also played a key role in Pep Guardiola’s teams’ advancement to a Champions League knockout berth and the FA Cup quarter-finals. The Belgium international has, undoubtedly, earned his stripes en route to being tagged as the foremost midfielder in Europe. The talismanic midfielder admitted to missing football deeply while being in isolation. He was addressing his followers in a video on Instagram live recently.

I told my wife I’m going to play a little longer. After this lockdown, I cannot stay at home. I told her I’m going to take two years more. It’s time to play football again,” admitted De Bruyne. “I miss it and it’s difficult. But we are not important, football is not important. People love football, but you need to stay safe.”

The Premier League has been scheduled to resume at the end of April with UEFA eager to ensure that the club football season reaches its annual scheduled climax after postponing the Euro 2020 tournament by a full year.
