Kane hinted at the weekend he might not be at Spurs [forever]. United have been long-term admirers of him and will be after a striker in the next transfer window. This makes for an interesting forecast on what may happen once normal activity is restored, at the back of the coronavirus which has placed the Premier League, as with all other major leagues in the world, in a state of utter disarray.

On this very future and what may yet transpire, taking to Instagram recently, Kane said: “I get asked this question a lot, it’s one of the things, I couldn’t say yes, I couldn’t say no [to]. I love Spurs, I’ll always love Spurs. But it’s one of the things I’ve always said, if I don’t feel like how we’re progressing as a team or going in the right direction, I’m not someone to stay there just for the sake of it.

I’m an ambitious player. I want to become a top, top player. So, it all depends on what happens as a team and how we progress as a team. It’s not definite that I’m going to stay there forever but it’s not a no either.

Ole Gunnar Solskjær is looking to reinvigorate his forward line when the transfer window opens again – whenever that might be – and the England captain might just be what the Red Devils’ boss needs to realise this dream.
