British boxing world champion Billy Joe Saunders recently filmed a jaw-dropping video in which he appears to instruct men on how to hit their female partners, while they are in lockdown with them due to the coronavirus.

Later, the 30-year-old offered up an apology having received a heavy backlash, after the footage of him surfaced on social media. The WBO super-middleweight champion was seen demonstrating brutal punching techniques on a punching bag while making remarks such as “hit her on the chin” in what looks like a shed at an unknown location.

In his apology, an ashamed Saunders said he would never condone domestic violence. He claimed: “If I saw a man touch a woman, I would smash him to pieces myself; apologies if I offended any women.” The Brit was on the cusp of finalising a deal to face Mexico’s Saul Alvarez in Las Vegas on May 2 before the outbreak of the global coronavirus pandemic.

He is unbeaten in 29 bouts, has held a world title in the middleweight division before moving up to super-middleweight. He defended his title in a laboured knockout win over Marcelo Esteban Coceres in Los Angeles in November, last year.
