Lockdown: A survival guide for staying sane

How to have a great time with life under quarantine.

The Covid-19 virus is no joke and has had over 530 000 people infected with the virus, according to the World Health Organisation.

As South Africa is now on a 21 day lock-down, urging citizens to stay at home, the boredom of 21 days indoors can be a painful for some. But here are 5 tips to help you survive the national lock-down.

Work out at home

For all the gym lovers it must be a buzzkill not having to go workout, especially with other like-minded gym fanatics. Not to worry because you can work out at home.

Of course, no heavy stuff like weightlifting unless you have dumbbells and treadmills, but you can do calf extensions on the steps, and push-ups and planks. That can keep you in shape and healthy for the next 21 days.

Talk to family and friends via online or phone

This is a perfect time to reconnect with family and friends, especially those you haven’t spoken to in ages. By doing this your bonds with your loved ones will grow stronger.

Reading Time

Those books you bought in hopes of reading them and never did. Well guess what? Now is the time to read them. It will give you a chance of pure solitude. There are also a wealth of free ebook websites where you you can simply download a classic novel or two. Don’t over-read and neglect the people around you though.

Catch up on your favourite TV shows

TV can be highly addictive, however, this is the best time to binge watch on all your favourite shows. Just make sure you don’t become a permanent couch potato.

Meditate

Focusing on you can be very helpful to your mental health. Meditating for at least 10-15 minutes every morning can change your outlook during this lockdown period.
