Breaking: SA now has 1170 COVID-19 cases

While South Africa recorded its first two deaths from the COVID-19 virus, it was announced late on Friday night that the total confirmed infections now stand at 1 170.

Jackson Mthembu, Minister in the Presidency of South Africa, announced the official figure during a National Command Council meeting.

Regarding the deaths that were announced earlier in the day, Mthembu clarified that one death is a direct result of COVID-19, while the second death is only “suspected”.
