Kaizer Chiefs have had the best players over the years at the club who contributed immensely towards their success, as they celebrate 50 years of existence this year.
We now look at five top players who have donned the number 11 jersey at the Soweto giants.
Nelson “Teenage” Dladla
Though he’s now working for Mamelodi Sundowns’ development structures, Dladla became a household name for the Glamour Boys between 1976 and 1988, notching up an impressive 125 goals in 408 matches in the black and gold.
Emmanuel Asanda Ngobese
An absolute fan-favourite, Ngobese was famously known in football circles as “Scara” or “Black Jesus”, and was a magician at feet with the ball, keeping the legacy of the number 11 jersey alive before leaving the club.
Jabu Pule (Mahlangu)
Perhaps one of the best players South Africa has ever produced, “Shuffle” tormented opposition defenders while in Amakhosi colours between 1999–2004, racking up 27 goals in 99 club appearances.
The “Smiling Assassin” is regarded as the best foreign player to have ever don the famous number 11 jersey. Musona was a nightmare for defenders, featuring for the Glamour Boys in 2009–2011 and again in 2013–2014, scoring 27 goals in 68 matches, in two separate stints.
Though he’s had a fairly good season at the club, the Zimbabwean international is yet to hit his strides since joining from Mamelodi Sundowns, but his talent and goal-scoring prowess is unquestionable.
