Kaizer Chiefs goalkeeper Daniel Akpeyi’s heroics this campaign has seen him attract attention from beyond South African borders, with the latest reports emerging that he has caught interest from an unknown team in Belgium.
Akpeyi, 33, has been in sublime form for the Absa Premiership league leaders, keeping 10 clean sheets in 19 league matches this campaign.
With domestic football currently on suspension due to the coronavirus pandemic outbreak, and with just under 10 matches to go before the 2019/20 term comes to a close, the Nigerian international could look in to secure an overseas deal especially with age not on his side, and with Itumeleng Khune lying in wait.
“It’s a tempting offer. I don’t know if it has got to the club yet, but it might convince them to let him go, ” a source told Phakaaathi.
“I believe it is in the region of R40 to 45 million (Euros 2million) and that should be enough to sway their management.”
Should the unknown club table an offer for the former Chippa United shot-stopper, Amakhosi will most probably welcome the opportunity to cash in on him, as they have three other young goalkeepers besides Khune.
Bruce Bvuma, Brylon Petersen and Bontle Molefe have all come through the Glamour Boys development structures, and have already been tipped as future goalkeepers for both club and country.
