A legendary boxer in his own right and two-weight world champion in the WBA and lineal super featherweight titles, Roger Mayweather, who is the uncle of American boxing celebrity Floyd “Money” Mayweather, has passed away aged 58.
According to TMZ, an American tabloid news website, Roger is regarded as one of the most famous boxing trainers in history and was an integral part of his nephew’s training team. Competing from 1981 the former world champion hung up his gloves in 1999 before taking up a career as a trainer in the sport. Reports in US media said Roger’s health had been on the decline in recent years, culminating in his ultimate death.
Floyd admitted that his uncle suffered physically from his 18-year professional boxing career. “My uncle, Roger Mayweather, has lost a lot of memory from the sport of boxing,” said Floyd. “He was only in his 50s, but it seemed like he was an old man already in his 80s.”
