Blitzboks players are set to be tested for the coronavirus amid fears they might have been exposed during the successive Los Angeles and Vancouver Sevens tournaments.
South Africa won the Los Angeles round of the HSBC Sevens World Series before capturing a fourth-place finish in Canada. However, the decision to test the team comes after two members of the Australia Sevens tested positive for the virus. But since then, rugby, like all sport around the globe, has been severely hit by the pandemic.
SANZAAR announced on Saturday that the 2020 Super Rugby tournament would be suspended for the foreseeable future following the conclusion of all the seventh-week matches.”The safety and welfare of the public, our players and other stakeholders, is paramount,” said SANZAAR chief, Andy Marinos.
On Sunday, it was announced that all Varsity Cup matches for this week have been postponed while various Easter school rugby festivals around the country have also been cancelled, in addition to all other unrelated sporting events.
