Amakhosi have been dealing with a goalkeeping dilemma since Khune fully recovered from his long-term injury, and it seems like they are still facing a huge conundrum ahead of the highly-anticipated Soweto Derby.

Khune returned to full fitness and was handed a start in Chiefs’ Nedbank Cup last 16 defeat to Highlands Park, however one cannot turn a blind eye on Akpeyi’s form of late.

“It’s just about focussing on your work, your training and what’s in your control, I mean you can’t control what everybody’s saying or thinking, or what the coach might do,” said Sandilands as quoted by KickOff.Com

“If you’re performing well at training; if you’re showing your confidence and everything then obviously the coach sees that, and it might influence his decision.

“So, it is a difficult place [to be in] but as a professional you have to dig deep within yourself and have character, be strong, believe in your ability and capabilities and, like I said, just try to focus on your work and what you can do.

“Errors are part of football; you’re a human being. There’s no person that doesn’t make mistakes, so it’s your own perception of that mistake.

“You either allow that negative talk or criticism to be a big focal point in your mind or you choose to get on with your work, but as a professional, you have to just put your head down and focus on what you’re in control of and take it from there.

“It probably is a very tough situation but that’s where character is built and that puts you in good stead going forward in your career.

“They are also experienced ‘keepers, so I’m sure they have their own processes and know what they’re doing.”
