First half:

It was a bright start from Diego Simeone’s side who took the lead as early as the fourth minute through Niguez’s header, who converted from close range for a massive early setback for the visitors.

In the 26th minute, it should have been 2-0 to the home side but Alisson produced a great save to deny former Chelsea striker Alvaro Morata.

Liverpool thought they had leveled matters midway through the game when Mohamed Salah had the ball in the back of the net but Roberto Firmino was offside in the build-up, and the goal was cancelled.

Second half:

At the start of the interval, Jurgen Klopp opted to throw in Divock Origi for Sadio Mane who hasn’t had the best of the night, while Simeone on the other hand sacrificed Thomas Lemar for Marcos Llorente.

Not many chances were created in the second period as the home side held on for a win.
