The dreaded injury epidemic has gripped the Stormers camp as yet another Springboks World Cup-winner joins the Western Cape outfit’s growing injury list.
This has seen Stormers coach John Dobson make the announcement that scrumhalf Herschel Jantjies, and openside flank Jaco Coetzee, have suffered injuries which has resulted in him making three changes to his starting lineup for Saturday’s hugely-anticipated match against the Lions at Emirates Airline Park. How long the pair, who join their captain Siya Kolisi and hooker Bongi Mbonambi on the sidelines, will be out for is unknown.
The pair have been replaced in the run-on XV by Godlen Masimla and Juarno Augustus, respectively. The latter’s selection at number eight has Johan du Toit shifting to openside flank with his brother, Pieter-Steph, retaining his spot at blindside. In Dobson’s front row, Wilco Louw gets the nod at tighthead prop in place of Frans Malherbe who drops to the bench.
JD Schickerling and Paul de Wet are set to occupy the bench as its new additions. The Stormers have made the perfect start with two wins from two without conceding a single point – after playing both games at home. Dobson, however, conceded that his team face a serious challenge if they are to maintain their winning start to the campaign.
It is always a tough assignment to travel up to Johannesburg, but it is a challenge that the team has really embraced this week,” Dobson said per a SA Rugby report. “We have made a solid start to the season at home, but we need to back that up with good performances away from home, and that starts this weekend against the Emirates Lions.”
