Ronaldo pleased with ‘hanging header’ to land win

Juventus brought 2019 to a close in Serie A with a 2-1 victory away to Sampdoria on Wednesday. And although it was far from being the Old Lady’s best performance, Juve boss Maurizio Sarri and star striker Cristiano Ronaldo said the challenge was taken on the chin by the champions, who are back to occupying the summit.

“The goals were both great,” Sarri began. “Ronaldo remained in the air for an infinite period of time [before heading home to restore Juve’s one-goal advantage. I think the first half was very good, as with the level of that played against Udinese, wherein in the second half, it was a bit more confusing, but we risked little.” Sarri said he was not too worried about the cushion of a single goal as the clocked ticked away in the second half.

“Of course, if you remain with the scoreline at 2-1 and don’t close the match, anything can happen, but I’ve seen the team in good health.  The trident?  It depends on the physical condition and if the attackers are in form, as with the current ones, the opponent, in turn, must be evaluated,” said the Italian.

Again the man of the moment for his wanderers ‘hanging header’ which landed at the back of the net at the cusp of half time, a content Ronaldo conceded that the game was not as easy as was expected. He added that his goal was every bit as exciting as the reaction in the stadium afterwards. “It was a very difficult game, Sampdoria played well, but we had a good approach and the right mentality.

“The goal was nice, but I am especially happy to have helped the team to get the three points. For a month, I had a knee injury but now I’m fine and I want to help the team win trophies. Now let’s think about the Super Cup: Lazio has an excellent team, but we are very confident,” said Ronaldo.
