SANTACO president Phillip Taaibosch has promised to change the taxi industry during his speech in Harrismith in the Free State on Thursday.
Taaibosch made this bold promise while delivering his speech at the national Festive Season Road Safety campaign launch.
The President said that he won’t allow anyone to look down on the law of the country.
“We are not going to allow anybody to undermine the law of our country, whether you are a driver with thirty years [experience] in this industry, very soon you will kiss this industry goodbye if you don’t change,” Taaibosch warned.
He sent his apologies to taxi commuters and those who have lost their loved ones due to taxi accidents.
“In this festive season you will see a changed taxi industry, but let’s make this appeal to our commuters, I know that there are those who say the drivers of the industry scare them, we say, we want to appeal to you, when you see that a driver is intoxicated or under influence of drugs, don’t enter the taxi, go to the taxi rank manager and report this so that you can save more lives,” he said.
The president also appealed to law enforcers to implement the law at its best.
“But also let me make an appeal to the police and the traffic cops, don’t shy away when you have to implement the law, and remember the law is not negotiable,” he added.
