United Democratic Movement (UDM) supporters in the Port Elizabeth region want Mongameli Bobani to be reinstated as mayor of Nelson Mandela Bay Metropolitan Municipality.
Legions of UDM supporters came in their numbers to support Bobani at the Port Elizabeth High Court over his urgent court application to be reinstated as mayor.
Bobani was removed as mayor of the Mandela Bay Municipality earlier this month in a motion of no confidence.
However, the former mayor believes his removal was unconstitutional and wants the court to set aside the council’s decision.
Bobani, who enjoys massive support from the people of Port Elizabeth, has been in a battle with the Democratic Alliance (DA).
It was the DA’s motion which saw Bobani being removed from his position and forced to go to court.
The DA has made it clear that the court should rule against Bobani’s move to return back in the council as mayor.
DA interim leader John Steenhuisen has stated that his party will try to negotiate with other parties in a bid to retain power in the troubled municipality.
The Port Elizabeth High Court is expected to rule on Bobani’s case later today.
