The University of Cape Town (UCT) has announced that the graduation ceremony taking place today will be the last to be presided over by the university’s Chancellor Graca Machel.

Her farewell ceremony will take place at Sarah Baartman Hall where more than a thousand graduates will be capped before the end of the year”according to a statement released by the academic institution.
“The ceremony on 12 December will be the last presided by outgoing Chancellor, Mrs Machel, whose term comes to an end on 31 December. UCT will honour Mrs Machel for serving the university in the last two decades. She was first elected as Chancellor in 1999, and then re-elected for another 10-year term in 2009.” details the university on Machel’s tenure.
UCT adds that Machel was a compassionate and dedicated servant who will be deeply missed by the student body, staff members and others.
