Eskom suspends intentions to interrupt power supply of 11 defaulting muncipalities

Eskom has suspended its intentions to interrupt power supply of 11 defaulting Northern Cape Municipalities.

This comes after Dikgatlong, Kamiesburg, Khai Ma, Phokwane, Magareng, Renosterberg, Richtersveld, Siyancuma, Siyathemba, Thembelihle and Ubuntu local municipalities entered into payment agreements with the power utility.

Intentions to cut power supply of the 11 municipalities on December 19 were previously communicated on October 21 via a newspaper notice.

Eskom said the power interruptions were a last resort to collect revenue owed to Eskom for the bulk power supply to the municipalities.

“We are pleased with the progress that has been made and hope that the municipalities and hope that the municipalities will adhere to the terms of the agreements entered into with Eskom,” said Eskom in a statement.
