Egypt is the largest export market for South African products in North Africa and the only country in the region that has a direct flight to South Africa through Egypt Air which has an agreement with South African Airways.

Since the establishment of the formal diplomatic relations in April 1994 South Africa and Egypt’s economic relations have strengthened steadily. President Ramaphosa will officially take over the Chair of the African Union from President Fatah El-Sisi in 2020.

Ramaphosa looks to work towards the African Unions goal of silencing the guns in 2020 by prioritizing regional and continental peace, stability, security, integration and development.

The visit provided both Heads of State with the opportunity to enhance strategic cooperation on the continent.

Ramaphosa had to cut his trip short and could not attend the Aswan Forum for Sustainable Peace and Development due to a national crisis that South Africas national power utility (Eskom) was faced with, resulting in the implementation of stage 6 load shedding.
