Power restored in parts of Pretoria following Kwagga substation fire

Power has been restored to parts of Pretoria following power outages due to Kwagga substation fire.

Tshwane Emergency Medical Services (EMS) spokesperson Charles Mabaso, told Jacaranda FM that the fire broke out at 03:00 Tuesday morning due to an oil leak from the station itself with firefighters dispatched around 03:30.

Affected areas included Atteridgeville, Bon Accord, Laudium, Sunnyside and Pretoria CBD.

Speaking to Pretoria East Rekord, City of Tshwane head of communication Hilgard Matthew said its technicians are working around the clock to restore power in all the affected areas.

“The Pretoria CBD which was affected is now up and running.” 

Matthew assured that power would be restored to all affected areas.

“All the areas affected should have power tonight around 18:00 to 19:00,” he said.
