DA to picket outside Eskom’s offices

The Democratic Alliance is expected to picket outside Eskom’s headquarters in Megawatt Park this morning as the country continue to deal with rolling blackouts.

This is where the party’s interim leader John Steenhuisen will address the media.

He is expected to outline the DA’s plan for a post-Eskom future in which energy sector is reformed. This comes after power utility Eskom announced Stage 6 load-shedding last night.

Steenhuisen will be joined by the party’s Gauteng Caucus Leader Solly Msimanga, Chairperson Mike Moriarty and Public Enterprises Spokesperson Ghaleb Cachalia.

The power utility announced that a technical problem at Medupi Power Station impacted additional supply.

South African are warned to expect more outages in the day with Stage 4 load-shedding.

Parts of Tshwane are without power this morning.

Meanwhile, parts of Tshwane are without power this morning after fire broke out at the Kwagga substation.

Emergency Services Personnel say the situation was worsened by the fact that oil was leaking from the substation itself.

The City say electricity in western parts of Pretoria has been affected.

Affected areas includes Rosslyn, Atteridgeville, Laudium, Sunnyside and Pretoria North.

EMS’ Charles Mabaso said, “Fire fighters responded to reports of fire at around 8:30 this morning. They found the substation fully engulfed in fire with oil leaking from the transformer. They then had to get the electricity department to declare the substation safe before they began distinguishing.
