Here. 10 things you didn’t know about Zozi Tunzi – Miss Universe 2019

Following her win at the Miss Universe stage, Zozibini Tunzi, Miss South Africa 2019, has become a household name across the globe and we could not be any prouder.

Here are 10 things you probably didn’t know about her.

1. Her genesis

Zozibini is a 26-year-old young girl who was born in Tsolo, eSdwadweni in the Eastern Cape. She has a National Diploma in Public Relations Management and is currently completing her B-Tech in PR at Cape Peninsula University of Technology.

2. Zozibini’s family

Her parents are Philiswa Tunzi Nadopu and Lungisa Tunzi. Her mother is a school principal at Bangweni JSS, a school in a village called Bolotwa in the Eastern Cape and her father works in Pretoria at the Department of Higher Education and Training.

3. Her siblings

Zozibini Tunzi is one of four girls – she has an older sister named Yanga (30), and two younger sisters, Sibabalwe (24) and Ayakha (13).

4. Her favourite food?

Her favourite food is Umngqusho (pronounced “oom-nqoo-shoh” which is made from stamp mielies and sugar beans) and beef stew.

5. Who inspires her?

She is inspired by the likes of Steve Biko, Nelson Mandela, Princess Diana and those of their calibre.

6. Her fears

She’s terrified of heights (acrophobia) and holes (trypanophobia).

7. She entered the Miss South Africa competition twice

Once in 2017 — when Demi-Leigh Nel Peters took home the tittle and went on to win Miss Universe 2017.

Again in 2019 where she too, has gone futher to win the same tittle.

8. She is big on represantation matters

On winning the Miss SA pageant with her natural hair, this is what Zozi, as she is affectionately known, had to say:

“I came into this competition with my natural hair as a symbol of my firm belief in fair representation of any shape and form. And so, through my win, I hope I have inspired people, even if just one person to be themselves at all times and to never compromise their identities, and to insert themselves in spaces where they feel that people like them do not belong.”

9. Her life post the Miss South Africa win on 9 August

After winning Miss South Africa 2019 she has been engaged in numerous initiatives to help make the world a better place including her global fight against gender-based violence as part of her year of reign.

10. What did she win as Miss Universe?

Zozi will be moving to New York for a year. She live in the Miss Universe apartment and will earn an undisclosed six-figure salary while travelling the world influencing change.

She will be given a year’s supply of makeup, hair products, shoes, clothing, jewellery, and skincare provided by organization sponsors. 

She’ll also be given a modeling portfolio shot by world-famous photographers, fully sponsored travel privileges, professional personal styling, and professional health, nutrition, dermatology consultations and free dental. She’ll also have exclusive access to events, parties, premieres, screenings, and even casting opportunities.”
