Banyana captain leads JVW to crowning as 2019 Sasol Champs!

Gauteng based club JVW were crowned the 2019 Sasol League National Champions after thrashing Limpopo club Ma-Indies 2-0 in the Sasol final on Sunday afternoon in Tsakane, Ekurhuleni.

The Gauteng club earned themselves a spot in 2020 SAFA Women’s National League and a cash prize of R200 000, while the silver medalists walked away with a place in the league and a cash prize of R100 000.

The head coach of JVW expressed her delight to have led the team to the title victory, while securing a place in the National League.

“We are very happy for this title and I want to congratulate my players for their display and the passion, hunger and resilience they showed throughout the tournament.

“I believe those attributes is what won us this tournament. We really wanted to qualify for the SAFA Women’s National League. That is where these players belong; top flight football,” said the head coach of JVW Ciara Picco as quoted by SAFA.net.

Banyana Banyana left-back and Ma-Indies captain Lebogang Ramalepe was named the Player of the Tournament alongside Sunflower WFC player Banele Madondo who was named the Young Player of the Tournament.

Sunflower striker Neliswa Lutuli walked away with the top goal scorer of the tournament award after netting 13 goals, while JVW goalkeeper Yolula Tsawe was named the Goalkeeper of the Tournament after conceding the least goals.

The bronze medalists Sunflower WFC walked away with a cash prize of R60 000 after hammering Royal Wizards 16-0 in their 3rd/4th place playoff.
