Newly elected mayor of Johannesburg Geoff Makhubo says he wants the City to be the safest place in the province.

Makhubo addressed the public for the first time as mayor of Johannesburg on Thursday.

Johannesburg continues to be one of the most dangerous places, with the City centre the hotbed of many criminal activities.

However, Makhubo, who replaced Herman Mashaba, says his objective to create a safe city.

” Joburg has to be a safe safety, we will do everything possible to make sure people can work, play and live in the city,” Makhubo said.

” We’re committed to working with the people of Johannesburg, we’ll focus on service delivery and restore inter-governmental relationships.”

DA’s Funzi Ngobeni lost to Geoff Makhubo

Makhubo, who received 137 votes to beat DA’s Funzi Ngobeni and EFF’s Musa Novela to become the mayor, says he does not care much who voted for him.

” I can’t speculate who voted for me or not, all I know is I voted for myself,” Makhubo said.

It is speculated that the EFF voted for Makhubo with an expectation that the ANC will also support their mayoral candidate in Tshwane.

The EFF has made it clear that it wants to take over Tshwane and looks like the ANC will help it take over the Capital City.
