José sees RED in Manchester with Rashford as the talk of the town

Thanks to a Marcus Rashford brace, Manchester United beat Tottenham Hotspur 2-1 in the Premier League on Wednesday night. The striker enjoyed a superb game against Spurs and, in the process, registered the Red Devils’ fastest goal so far this season.

As well as Rashfords’ outstanding performance, there was plenty more for fans to be delighted about after the game, such as the return of Scott McTominay and the continuation of United’s impressive run against the league’s top sides. For Tottenham, it meant they suffered their first defeat under José Mourinho in four outings.

Speaking to BBC Sport after the game, Mourinho attempted to put all of this into perspective. “We started the second half with a goal that is impossible [not] to concede. We were not alert; sleeping at the throw-in and we let Rashford attack. Once he is inside the box, it’s more difficult to defend and he was clever and waited for the touch,” explained Mourinho.

His opposite number, Ole Gunnar Solskjær, was deft in his assessment of the game. “You are always happy when you win. The boys are learning and improving all the time but tonight we were fantastic for long, long spells,” Solskjær told BBC Sport.

“The three points are massive for us. We’ve had too many draws this season and given too many points away from winning positions. It’s a great lesson [we learned] in our last two league games and we came back in a great manner, this time.

“We’ve started the rebuilding. We’ve made decisions that we had to and we’re looking to build this club to be better again, and I can’t think short-term when I’m trying to do that.”
