Mngonyama believes that McCarthy’s downfall was not influenced by results alone, and gave an insight into the relationship that the coach had with players.

“It was sad to see coach Benni McCarthy losing his job but that’s part of football. In our industry these things happen,” Mngonyama said as quoted by KickOff.Com.

“Coach Benni fought for many players at City and I feel it came to a time where he couldn’t do it anymore. He’s human after all and he got tired. He had to move on.”

The 26-year-old defender believes that Benni’s spirit of fighting for his players did not work out in his favour as he is said to have had his players’ backs even those who did not deserve his mercy.

The Bafana Bafana defender felt McCarthy fought hard for his players at the club, even those who were underperforming and not producing results, which did not work out in his favour.

“Coach Benni he is very good coach, especially to us players from KwaZulu-Natal. Some other things were out of his hands. He made it clear to us during difficult times that he loves KZN players and players who the club felt were not bringing the results.

“Even though it’s sad, I know he will bounce back in football. Everyone knows that Thami is a quality player, even Thabo Nodada and Shaka Zulu, they work so hard,” he added speaking about KZN-based players

“Even myself at the club I was still performing, so coach Benni believed in us because we showed what we can do on the pitch, hence he believed in us.”
