Lionel Messi was in top form at Camp Nou on Wednesday when he made his 700th appearance for Barcelona, having bagged 613 goals with 237 assists.
Messi rewrote history indeed as he scored one and assisted with two others as Barcelona asserted the top spot in Group F following their 3-1 win over Borussia Dortmund.
He turns out to be just the second Barcelona player to arrive at the milestone after Xavi Hernández, who made 767 appearances. Nobody throughout the entire existence of the club has won more than Messi, who has 34 trophies to his name.
Furthermore, 34 could become 35, if Messi and Barcelona were to win another Champions League title.
This milestone was anything but quiet for Messi. Within 30 minutes, he was setting up Uruguayan partner Luis Suarez to open the scoring, and only five minutes later Suarez was reimbursing the support, playing Messi into firing the home side’s second goal of the night.
It would just be right for a man showing up for his 700th appearance to score his 613th goal for the club and Messi coolly dispatched the ball into the back of the net.
The deadly strike couple presently has 800 goals between them for Barcelona.
