Mmusi Maimane has once again hinted that he and Herman Mashaba will form a new political party.
There is an expectation that Maimane will form a new party ahead of the 2021 local government elections.
Following the formal resignation of Mashaba as the mayor of Johannesburg on Wednesday, Maimane thanked Mashaba for his contribution but also hinted that he might be joining forces with him in the future.
” He has served the citizens of Joburg with distinction. We now charter a way forward where future generations can be served by individuals who place citizens first,” Maimane said.
Both Maimane and Mashaba resigned from the Democratic Alliance (DA) last month, citing lack of cooperation from some leaders within the party.
Maimane, who served as the DA leader for over three years, has been going around the continent looking for ways to better a new inclusive South Africa.
The former DA leader had previously refuted claims that he will start his own party.
However, expectations continues to mount that he will form a new party with Mashaba that will contest the local government elections.
